ROMAN EMPERORS: 100 BC-138 AD
The Roman people were very interested in astrology.
By 100 BC, many Roman statesmen and military leaders
had their horoscopes cast. Even the emperors employed
the talents of numerous astrologers. Julius Caesar
had a very detailed horoscope created for him. Caesar
Augustus (27 BC to 14 AD) went one step further: he
ordered that coins bear his astrological sign of
Capricorn. According to legend, Augustus's rise to
emperor was predicted for him at birth by an
astrologer.
Emperor Tiberius (14-37 AD) regularly consulted
astrologers to find out which political rivals might
challenge him in the future. Tiberius then had his
"rival" killed. Tiberius was equally tough on his
astrologers--he had them executed if he didn't like
their horoscope!
Emperor Hadrian (117-138 AD) prepared detailed
horoscopes at the beginning of each year so that he
would which events would occur. Hadrian's horoscopes
even predicted the hour of his own death in 138 AD.
